Today
I took my daughter and a friend to visit the Lincoln Memorial for a school project. I’ve visited many, not all, of the monuments in Washington, DC, and to date this remains my favorite. Perhaps because it was the first I remember visiting not long after I arrived in this country. I love climbing the marble steps, each step taking me higher above the scene below. And when I stand in the portico and look out on to the Reflection Pool — the Monument in the distance — I feel at peace and as if am on top of the world.
