Stranger Nos. 5 & 6 – Coffeehouse Encounter

Check Mate-1
While sitting in SB this afternoon, I looked up and saw these two engrossed in their game. I had to take a photo. I thought about asking their permission first, but then the moment would be lost. I snapped away and then awkwardly asked them after if it was okay to take their picture, that I already had, and if it was okay to post the photograph. They were very obliging. As usual, light play continues to draw me to scenes. I really liked how the mid-afternoon light illuminated the chessboard and his face, and how it made her shoulder glow. I was equally drawn to them. They seemed so young (the Disney string hanging from his pocket), yet “grown up” playing chess in the strip mall SB. I thought about asking if they were a couple, what they did, their names. Ultimately, those things didn’t matter. I think the scene speaks for itself. Listen.

  1. Your pictures are fantastic! I am very pleased to have met you, and I love your work so far! I will definitely be stopping by again in the future to see what new projects you take on. Best of luck to you!

P.S. That’s me, the girl in the photo.
